BATOD Conference Committee reserves the right to change the speakers and workshop titles if necessary whilst retaining the subject of the Conference.

Ensure that your Teacher of the Deaf skills in speech, language and communication are put to good use. Share your understanding and knowledge with other ToDs, education support staff, SENCos, Interpreters, Social Workers, Cochlear Implant teams and mainstream colleagues. Invite them to join this exciting conference considering how we can facilitate and improve the communication skills of the young people whom we come into contact with in our working environment.

Workshops will include:

  • acoustics, soundfield systems and fm
  • finding out about mentoring for newly qualified ToDs
  • language, communication and literacy - phonics and cued speech
  • language modification
  • developing materials and equipment (show and tell - bring your materials)
  • the 14-19 curriculum, moving on - transition to work
  • working with Interpreters and CSWs, SENCos, social workers
  • working with NDCAMHS (National Deaf Children and Adolescent Mental Health Service)
Workshop details can be found in the Conference 2011 folder on the BATOD website.

Forms may be downloaded from the website and will be distributed with the November Magazine.

An article about the National Year of Communication (SEN Magazine) is also visible in the Conference 2011 folder.

There is also the Bercow report and the Better Communication Action Plan which should also be of interest and provide some backgropund to the National Year of Ccommunication.
