OnlineInset: Understanding Hearing Impairment

OnlineInset has been developed by the DfES funded South Central Regional Inclusion Partnership. OnlineInset has developed a range of online training courses designed to be delivered by advisory teachers and other professionals who support children with special educational needs. The Berkshire Sensory Consortium has written the newly released HI and VI courses in association with Mary Hare School.

Each course is accessed through the Internet so students can log on at any time from school or home. Individual courses are managed by a QToD and the tutor needs to attend a tutor training event to learn how to administrate the courses. Each course has four sections; understanding, assessment for learning, interventions and case studies. Each cohort will work through the materials with their tutor and then respond to the course content through online forums.

The courses have been designed to be practical and are aimed at teachers and teaching assistants who support students from Early Years through to FE. The courses are highly interactive and include many video case studies that are all subtitled, quizzes and animations and reflect the whole range of teaching approaches used in schools.

One of the workshops at the 8 March BATOD CPD Study day to be held at St Cecilia's, Wandsworth Church of England School will enable delegates to access the materials and view them so they can see whether they would want to join. Annual subscription is available for local authorities, schools or individuals. A list of authorities that have subscribed to the training is available on the OnlineINSET website
