DESCRIPTION:Location – Sheffield \n“Are you a Teacher of the Deaf\, an Educational Audiologist\, a Rehabilitation Therapist or a Speech & Language Therapist. If so\, do you fancy some free counselling training\, equivalent to 14 hours of training? The course we offer is delivered in three parts. \nPart One (The Learn Phase) – 1.5 hours online \nYou will receive an introduction to counselling\, statistics pertaining to hearing loss-related mental health and an overview of why counselling support is beneficial for this group. Towards the end of this session\, we will also cover listening skills. \nPart Two (The Practice Phase) – 10 hours in person \nYou will receive an informative introduction to Humanistic Therapy\, one of the tenets of person-centred therapy. You will be guided through engaging content followed by thought-provoking questions designed to enhance your learning. You will be provided with scenarios\, and practical tips so that you can empower adults and families impacted by hearing loss. You will also get an opportunity to practice those counselling skills. \nPart Three (The Master Phase) – 2.5 hours online \nYou will now get an opportunity to present a brief case study based on your practice. This is made easy using a template we provide. All case studies are anonymised to ensure confidentiality\, but as a group we will come together online to provide feedback\, drawing on the humanistic skills we have learnt. \n  \nSheffield  \nPart 1: September 22nd at 6PM (online) \nPart 2: October 2nd and 3rd (in person) \nPart 3: October 14th or 15th at 6PM (online) \nApply before August 6th > HERE \n  \n* A second provisional date is provided for Part 3. SUMMARY:Launch of the fourth edition of Language of Examinations
DESCRIPTION:BATOD has a long history of advocating for fair access arrangements\, particularly the principles underpinning language of examinations. Early work on language modification emerged from concerns about the accessibility of examinations for deaf learners in higher education\, with discussions beginning in the 1970s and the first edition of Language of Examinations subsequently published in 1989. \nThe fourth edition of Language of Examinations is a collaborative publication. The publication is designed as a practical resource supporting professionals to make language more accessible across classroom learning\, teaching\, assessment and examinations for learners who may experience linguistic barriers. \nJoin us to celebrate the launch of the fourth edition of Language of Examinations.  This webinar brings together the organisations and professionals involved in and supporting the fourth edition\, recognising our shared role in improving access for deaf learners and others who may experience language-related barriers. The aim is to create meaningful and lasting connections between people of all ages and abilities and the natural world. \nAs a national charity Sensory Trust run funded projects and deliver consultancy and training. They take a grass roots approach through community projects\, product design\, consultancy\, training and publishing free guidance and resources. On any given day they could be facilitating a dementia friendly walking group\, supporting families to enjoy a woodland trail\, advising on inclusive sign design\, reviewing design drawings\, or conducting an access audit. \nSensory Trust have a strong legacy of working with special schools to enhance their ability to engage with\, and learn about\, nature. Through projects such as Nature Friendly schools funded by Defra\, Sensory Nature Activities and Play (SNAP)\, and their latest work on Climate Cooler Schools they have improved school grounds through interventions and created inclusive learning resources. They believe in a hands-on multi-sensory approach ensuring that all students can be part of the conversation and gain benefits from the natural world. \nTarget Audience – Teachers of Outdoor Learning\, Complex Needs teachers\, Teaching assistants\, Primary and Secondary teachers. \nPresenters – Lynsey Robinson and Rosie Johns\, Sensory Trust \nLynsey heads up work with communities\, young people and their families\, and schools\, using inclusive\, multisensory opportunities to connect everyone with nature and the outdoors. Lynsey’s work ensures that communities are inspired to engage with the natural world\, making positive change together. With a background in design\, Lynsey is passionate about creating inclusive nature-based opportunities for people of all ages to enjoy. \nRosie leads on the development of learning and training resources for special schools\, engaging special school children and teachers with nature and the outdoors. As a former special school teacher\, Rosie brings a wealth of expertise in working in schools and with children and young adults with autism. Rosie’s skills with photography and film-making are shining through in our new film-based teaching resources and activity ideas.

However\, there are many factors to consider – from the environment\, to choosing hardware and software\, right through to privacy and data protection. \nThis unique event delivered in partnership with Jisc brings together practitioners\, specialists and people with lived experience to address the complexities of providing live captioning and to share what works. To consider the whole educational journey of learners who benefit from live captions\, we’ll be featuring the experiences of people from all stages and contexts: primary\, secondary\, tertiary and specialist settings. \nUseful insights from a new guide for education providers will be outlined\, with many of the authors providing input. The achievements of GB and Ireland in international competitions highlight the skill and dedication within Deaf sports\, reinforcing pride and visibility. Beyond competition\, Deaf sports play a crucial role in the social and emotional well-being of Deaf young people (YP)\, offering spaces for belonging\, identity-building\, and camaraderie. Assistive Listening Technology\, including Bluetooth streaming and devices like Roger On V2\, enhances accessibility in remote meetings and lectures\, empowering Deaf individuals in professional and educational settings. CaptionConnect facilitates real-time accessibility\, while PiP tools and carer passes improve inclusion at events such as theatre performances. Organisations like Sign Health and the NDCS provide critical advocacy and health services\, offering tailored support based on individual needs. For further and higher education\, preparing early for Disabled Students’ Allowance (DSA) through Student Finance ensures access to necessary accommodations. The Disabled Freedom Pass in London and varying benefits\, such as Ireland’s Disability Allowance (DA)\, highlight the need for awareness of local policies. Services provided by Remark\, RAD\, and Sign Health—ranging from support workers to direct payments or personal budgets—help families navigate education\, particularly for those with or without an EHCP. Changes in environment\, expectations\, relationships\, and support structures can create significant challenges\, particularly where continuity is limited. \nThis session will explore why transition can be difficult for autistic pupils\, examining the social\, emotional\, and systemic factors that contribute to distress and disengagement. It will consider how issues such as belonging\, communication\, and unmet additional support needs impact wellbeing and learning. \nAimed at upper primary and secondary practitioners\, the session will provide opportunities to reflect on current transition practices and share practical\, evidence-informed strategies to support more inclusive\, collaborative approaches and improve outcomes for autistic learners. \nTarget Audience – Upper primary and secondary practitioners\, Pastoral teachers. \nPresenter – Victoria Castelli-MacLennan\, Engagement Support Manager\, National Autistic Society. \nVictoria has experience supporting children and young people across primary and secondary education.
