Advisory Teacher of the Deaf – Swindon
Advisory Teacher of the Deaf Ref: 004669
Salary: Mainscale MPS/UPS + SEN point 1
32.5 hours per week
Are you a teacher looking for change of career? This could be the job for you!
We are looking to recruit an excellent, skilled practitioner who has good knowledge of hearing impairment and experience of working with children and young people in mainstream schools. The post covers working with young people with deafness 0-25 years, their educational settings and families.
We are the Hearing Support Team which is part of the Advisory Support Service and operates as a team across the Borough of Swindon. We have a successful record of inclusion of children and young people with deafness within Swindon schools but also provide outreach support to those in specialist provisions.
This is a peripatetic teaching role with the office base at Dorcan Academy in Swindon. The successful applicant will visit children and young people with deafness at home and in educational settings within Swindon Borough. If you are passionate about improving the outcomes of young people with deafness, we would love to hear from you.
Ideally, applicants will hold the mandatory qualification of Teacher of the Deaf. However, if you are looking for a career change, we welcome applications from candidates who meet the essential requirements of this post. We are willing to train an unqualified Teacher of the Deaf, but applicants must hold a teaching qualification and show evidence of excellent recent practice. The successful applicant, if not holding the mandatory qualification, will be funded by Swindon Borough Council and supported by the Hearing Support Team, to complete a Distance Learning qualification (situated locally) to gain the mandatory qualification over 2 years. This is a demanding but rewarding course which can provide a springboard to a wealth of opportunities within the field of Deaf Education.
The post is subject to Teachers’ Pay and Conditions Mainscale/UPS + 1 SEN point for teachers without mandatory qualification. An additional SEN point will be awarded on successful completion of the course.
A driver’s licence is preferable, however the ability to travel throughout the Borough is essential.
Applicants must be fluent in the English language (as a requirement of Part 7 of the Immigration Act – for the effective performance of a customer-facing role).
