The Role
As the Communication Support Worker for Sedgehill Academy, the post-holder will be an integral part of the Deaf Education Team. The Communication Support Worker will work alongside the Lead Teacher of the Deaf and other key staff in school to promote and maintain a calm, safe and purposeful learning environment through individuals or groups of deaf students in mainstream lessons and in the DEC.

In particular, the post holder will: clarify, modify and simplify subject material and vocabulary as appropriate, provide communication support in a way which facilitates students’ language development.

About you
With the passion to empower deaf learners along with a BSL level 2 qualification and your proven experience of working successfully with deaf students/adults, you will provide communication support throughout the school day to enable full access to the curriculum and extra-curricular activities e.g. lessons, assemblies, parents’ evenings, school visits and other school events.

You will help to promote students’ independence skills in communication, learning and social skills with the school setting.

It is essential that you can demonstrate your previous experience of and understanding schools’ welfare, social and safeguarding needs and schools’ policies on Equal Opportunities, Behaviour, Anti-Bullying, Child Protection and restraint, along with Health and Safety and Security.

Experience of audiological equipment (hearing aids, cochlear implants, radio-aids) is desirable.
