Exeter Deaf Academy provides specialist education and care tailored to the individual needs of Deaf young people. The sense of belonging to an inspiring bilingual community transforms students as they develop language skills and journey towards independence and fulfilling their potential.Later this year the Academy will begin to build a groundbreaking, purpose-built facility scheduled to open in the seaside town of Exmouth in 2019. This new world-class Academy will change the lives of Deaf students. It will break down barriers to Deaf young people, bring communities together and enable families to thrive.

Family Sign Language Tutor
Hourly rate £15.12 to £24.29 per hour (depending on qualifications and experience)

We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and individual to provide tuition during the Family Sign Language weekends*.

This is a fantastic development opportunity for someone who is passionate about the teaching of BSL who is keen and able to develop the skills of others in our rich language.

Key responsibilities:
• Deliver the Family Sign Language course (FSLC) to families, friends, professionals and those with a link to a Deaf child/adult.
• Develop course materials and lesson plans as appropriate to deliver the course.
• Use the FSLC online resource to support the course delivery.
• Complete appropriate administration to support the delivery and evaluation of the course.

Key requirements:
• Level 3 NVQ in BSL (or equivalent), or, be a native BSL user
• Experience of working with Deaf children and adults
• Ability to engage constructively with, and relate to, a wide range of young people and their families/carers.
• Willingness to travel and work evenings and weekends.

*During the remainder of 2018-19, tuition will take place on the weekend 12-13 January 2019 and 18-19 May 2019. There may be a further weekend planned in the summer term subject to demand. Dates for the 2019-20 academic year are yet to be confirmed but are likely to take place in October, January and with a third weekend in the summer term subject to the move to the new premises being completed. Actual hours per weekend will be in the region of 13.
