Maths / Computing Teacher for Deaf Children – Heathlands
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the staff of this vibrant, high achieving local authority special school for deaf children aged 3-16. In September 2017 Heathlands was graded as outstanding in all categories by Ofsted.
Salary Range: MPS/UPS, fringe allowance and SEN points dependant on qualifications and experience. Initially this is to cover 1 year maternity leave, with the possibility thereafter to become permanent.
We are looking for an enthusiastic, flexible and committed maths/computing specialist teacher to join a well-established and expanding team. The successful candidate will be able to teach maths and/or computing at KS3/4 and have a strong knowledge and understanding of language development in EAL/SEN children. You will need to have an innovative and engaging approach to lessons to facilitate access to the computing National Curriculum for deaf students. You should also be adept in monitoring and assessing to ensure the best possible progress. Expertise in pastoral care would be especially welcome as the successful candidate will also have tutoring responsibility for a small group of students.
The successful candidate will have a commitment to developing outstanding practice and a passion for making a difference to the education and lives of our students by motivating and inspiring them to ‘be the best that they can be’.
The successful candidate must be able to offer subject specialism up to GCSE level in maths or computing. The ability to offer a second subject is desirable. They will also be expected to have involvement in the wider life of the school including tutoring responsibility for a small group of students. Teachers who have experience and/or qualification to teach deaf children are invited to apply. If the successful applicant was not a qualified Teacher of the Deaf they would be funded by the school to undergo training to gain the mandatory qualification. Knowledge of British Sign Language or a commitment to work towards minimum BSL3 is essential.
