Quality Standards in Peri services 4 Carole Sturt describes the launch of the latest document produced in Scotland to assist Peripatetic Services in self-evaluation.
Self-Evaluation by Peripatetic Services 5 Self-Evaluation by Peripatetic Sensory Services aims to contribute to the development of quality assurance procedures for peripatetic sensory services. The project was funded by the Scottish Executive to support self-evaluation in the sensory services. It aims to help teachers in sensory services to evaluate their own practice.

In Services with only one Teacher of the Deaf this may not be an issue but in larger Services, it can raise questions around standardisation.

BSL and the National Curriculum 25 Nick Warnock, Nottinghamshire Sensory Support Service, has been employed to develop multi-media resources for use with deaf children in mainstream and inclusive settings. However due to an urgent request from the Teachers of the Deaf, teaching assistants and Communication Support Workers for a database of signs, his priorities have changed. Nick describes is current work on this linked to all subjects in the National Curriculum.
Kavule Parents� School for Deaf Children (Uganda) 28 Doreen Woodford describes the Kavule Parents� School for Deaf Children (Uganda). This is one of the several schools that the Uganda Parents of Deaf Children Association and the Uganda Association of the Deaf, together with local community help, are encouraging all over the country. This is a way of trying to get education to the many children who would otherwise have no chance.
Using direct input hearing aids for pleasure! 29 Most of the young people that ToDs work with want to be �ordinary� and are �ordinary�... they want to listen to their favourite CDs, personal stereos, minidisks, CD and cassette players, use computer and video games. Getting sound directly to their hearing aids should not be a problem. This short article describes the solutions available from Connevans.
Not alone.... 50 Louisa Booth ToD and Audiological Scientist with Advanced Bionics UK organised a day in London for some of the young people that she works with. Louisa shares some of things that she discovered are important to the teenagers.
BATOD membership form and poster centre pull-out A new BATOD membership application form has just been published - so try and persuade your colleagues to join up! The pull-out also has a colourful poster advertising the work of BATOD. Pin this up on the wall in schools that you visit and encourage mainstream teachers to take advantage of the information BATOD makes available through the Magazine, Journal and on the Web site. The use of Stetoclips 36 Richard Vaughan (NDCS) completes the trio of sheets on hearing aid care by describing the use of steoclips. NDCS believes that regular subjective testing of children�s hearing aids is essential and effectively complements the less frequent objective tests carried out by audiologists using specialist equipment.
