CIICA CONVERSATION: MOVING ON WITH PERSON CENTRED CARE
WHAT DID WE SAY?

Following our previous conversations on Person Centred Care adults with CI, parents and clinicians explored the ways in which we can collaborate to ensure CI services are person centred. Some of the challenges were discussed, and some practical suggestions made.

Our Conversation was led  by Kris English, Audiologist, USA,  Helen Cullington from the University of Southampton Auditory Implant Service, UK, and Lori Sammartino, USA, who is a retired teacher  from the USA turned life coach who received her cochlear implant in Nov 2020.

LATEST RESEARCH ROUND UP TO SUPPORT YOUR ADVOCACY WORK BY BRIAN LAMB
In the research update you can find new studies on the impact of hearing aid use on cognitive decline and dementia, and new guidelines on Quality Standards for rehabilitation of young deaf children receiving Cochlear Implants with additional supporting materials.  You will also find a challenge on how we promote public messages around hearing loss and dementia and significant new studies on the cost savings realised by providing CIs with important evidence which could be used in Advocacy activities. The summaries are supported by suggestions for how the research can be used in policy and advocacy work.

LAUNCHING SOON … THE REPORT AND RECOMMENDATIONS FROM OUR GLOBAL ADULT SURVEY 
We will be launching our report and recommendations from the global adult survey over a 1,000 of you who completed from 40 countries: the consultation asked about the services received and what respondents would like.  The recommendations will be of interest to all, including parents and young people. They will be coming directly to you to share, with clear messages to use for social media. Coming soon to your in-box with ideas to share with your members, colleagues, friends and families. 
HELP needed : Many of you helped with the translations and we will be looking to you to support the translation and use of the Executive Summary.
CHHA  LAUNCHES: ADULT HEARING HEALTH: CANADA’S GROWING CHALLENGE 

SPEND2SAVE  is well established in Europe – and now there is a version specifically focussed on Canadian issues.

The Canadian Hard of Hearing Association (CHHA)  is delighted to launch the document Adult Hearing Health: Canada’s Growing Challenge which was developed with the CHHA groups across Canada and CI support groups.

There were a lot of fascinating discussions and great evidence of successful advocacy work in Canada.
7th WORLD CONGRESS ON CI IN EMERGING COUNTRIES, CIICA CONTRIBUTIONS
Professor Levent Sennaroglu M.D, President of the 7th World Congress of Cochlear Implantation in Emerging Countries, welcomed CIICA to this unique congress, providing us with two opportunities to share.
Sue Archbold coordinated a great team about Red Flags after CI – looking from initial tuning to thinking about language and literacy. With two members of the CIICA BOARD, Eddie Mukaaya and Paige Stringer, Sue provided their thoughts about The REAL issues and challenges for families in low resourced countries.
