Ofqual has published an update to Ofqual’s approach to regulating the use of artificial intelligence in the qualifications sector.
While our regulatory approach remains the same, today’s publication provides an update to this 2024 paper and sets out how we will:
- enable safe AI‑driven innovation and growth in the sector
- ensure our regulatory framework remains proportionate, transparent and effective
- continue to manage risks to qualifications and assessments
The publication is structured around two areas: how awarding organisations may use AI, and how students’ use of AI affects assessment.
We are keen to continue engaging with stakeholders on this topic after publication – particularly as the evidence base develops and as awarding organisations continue to test and explore possible uses of AI. “
