Information from NDCS’ Head of Family Programmes and Involvement

Posted in News

We have been asked by NDCS’ Head of Family Programmes and Involvement to make our members aware of the following activities for families:

“I just wanted to keep you up to date to share opportunities with families and through professionals working with deaf children and their families to join our online events.

After the success of our first online coffee morning we are having second fun session on July 21st 10.30-11.30. Whether families have a child who has been newly diagnosed or you’ve been a member for a long time, we’d love for them join us and other parents of deaf children online for a cuppa and a chat – children are welcome too.

We have our 4th “Supporting parents new to hearing loss” online session for parents all across the UK on 29th July 2-3pm. Our children and family support officer Heather will be providing lots of useful information and guidance on the different kinds of support and services available to families. They will have the opportunity to ask about any questions or concerns they might have, hear a real-life experience from the parent of a deaf child, meet and chat with other families going through a similar experience and share their own experiences, start to be part of a community of parents and carers of deaf children.

There are also some other useful and interactive online session available to parents to book:

An Intro to technology and apps with Kim – 2 July 2020 – 2-3pm

Home learning with Emma, our Teacher of the Deaf – 8 July – 2-3pm

Starting Secondary School for Deaf Children – What To Expect with Lynn – 15 July 2-3pm

New sessions that will soon be available to book include – Family Fund; What happens after the exam results?; What to expect from your audiology service now? – more details will follow.

For more information and to book any session please see  https://www.ndcs.org.uk/our-services/our-events/events-for-parents-carers-and-families/online-events/

Our free Family Sign Language Course is now at week 8 of 12 and families can access these at any time through the link above.

Very shortly we will also be launching some videos for families from our Raising a Deaf Child parenting course. These will be free via our website for all families to access and we’ll be able to share that information very soon.”
