“London screening of the 4K restored African American independent film Compensation at the BFI Southbank Cinema on May 8 at 20:55 and May 24th at 18:20. The film was made with open captions and will be shown in English and American Sign Language.

Leading Black American Deaf actress Michelle A. Banks stars in Compensation which is having its long-delayed theatrical release after 25 years. It premiered in February at the Lincoln Center in New York and is being currently released throughout the United States and Canada until the launch of the Criterion Blu-ray in August. I am the screenwriter. The film is directed by Zeinabu irene Davis, independent filmmaker and University of California professor. In December 2024, Compensation was selected along with 25 others for preservation by the National Film Registry of the U.S. Library of Congress for “cultural, historical and aesthetic importance.”
