Young People’s Advisory Group (YPAG) – recruiting 14-16 year olds D/deaf young people and 14-16 year old siblings of D/deaf CYP

Posted in News

UK-wide invite
“Some of the researchers at Southampton are recruiting 14-16 year olds D/deaf young people and 14-16 year old siblings of D/deaf CYP.  It’s a really exciting project to decide what is worth researching for this age group.”
Poster to circulate can be downloaded here.
My name is Kate Hough and I am a hearing and cochlear implant researcher from University of Southampton.  I work with Tracey Newman. Over the last few years, we have built a group called ALL_EARS@UoS which is for people with lived experience of hearing loss and deafness. Members of the group work in partnership with researchers to ensure the research we do is relevant and impactful to people with hearing loss or deafness and their families.
We have now launched a Young People’s Advisory Group (YPAG) for young people with lived experience of hearing loss or deafness. This is to ensure the voice of young people is included our hearing research.
Who are we looking for:
Young people aged 14 – 16 years old who are deaf or hard of hearing and siblings of young people who are deaf or hard of hearing (aged 14-16 years).
What will it involve:
We will run meetings every 3-4 months (mostly online with some in-person) where young people can share their ideas and have their say about their lived experience of deafness. There will be opportunities to get involved with public engagement activities too.
For more information:
Visit our website which has more information about what we are looking for and what the involvement would look like:  https://generic.wordpress.soton.ac.uk/all-ears/2025/03/07/join-our-new-young-peoples-advisory-group-ypag/.
Young people will be reimbursed for their time using vouchers.
