Information from MED-EL:

“Care For You” Initiative in Southampton

Free support for patients on their journey to hearing

Brought to you by MED-EL UK & Ireland, through BeHeard by MED-EL

in partnership with the University of Southampton Auditory Implant Service (USAIS)

“The decision to explore a hearing implant, or adjust to life with one, can bring many questions and emotions for individuals and families.

To offer additional support at every stage, MED-EL UK & Ireland is bringing its free “Care For You” support initiative to Southampton through BeHeard by MED-EL.

Delivered in partnership with the University of Southampton Auditory Implant Service (USAIS), the support days will provide counselling, practical guidance and peer connection for:

  • People considering a hearing implant
  • Parents and caregivers
  • Families looking for additional information, guidance and reassurance
  • Existing MED-EL hearing implant users

Get the Right Support for Your Patients

BeHeard by MED-EL counselling support

The counselling sessions are for anyone considering or supporting a hearing implant journey, including parents, family members and caregivers.

They provide a safe space to talk with an accredited therapist who has lived experience of hearing loss and is also a cochlear implant user. Having been through the hearing implant journey themselves, the therapist understands the questions, concerns and emotions that can arise.

  • Group counselling: 90 minutes from 12pm
  • One-to-one counselling: 45-minute appointments at 3pm, 4pm or 5pm
  • One-to-one appointments are limited and allocated on a first-come, first-served basis
  • We recommend signing up for more than one counselling session, if possible

MED-EL technical and device support

Existing MED-EL hearing implant users can meet with an experienced MED-EL Clinical Specialist for guidance relating to:

  • Audio processors
  • Connectivity
  • Accessories
  • Day-to-day device use

Hearpeers mentor connections

Attendees will also have the opportunity to connect with Hearpeers Mentors, volunteers with lived experience of using a MED-EL hearing implant. They can share their experiences, answer questions and provide peer support.

If you support someone who may benefit from this opportunity, share these details with them and encourage them to register.
