Frontiers Research Topic on Language Development Behind the Mask

Posted in News

Núria Esteve-Gibert, Monika Molnar, Marina Vigário and Sonia Frota  are editing a Frontiers Research Topic on Language Development Behind the Mask.

Due to COVID-19, children born since the beginnings of 2020 have been exposed to sets of auditory and/or visual cues to language that differ from those commonly available in the input. It is presently unknown what the effects of the ubiquitous use of masks are on language development. The goal of this research topic is to promote innovative research on the properties and effects of face-masked input, addressing fundamental issues in the phonetics of speech cues, auditory speech processing, visual and audiovisual language processing, language learning, social interaction and communication.

The deadline for manuscript submission is December 20, 2021.
