“The IMPACT trial is investigating whether Hanen’s It Takes Two to Talk (ITTT) alongside standard NHS care can improve language outcomes for children under 5 receiving cochlear implants.

To be eligible for the trial, one parent must speak English at home (ITTT programme is delivered in English)

We are looking to recruit children under the age of 5 years old who have been offered Cochlear Implants in both ears and their parents/carers to take part in this trial.

Trial timeline:

Initial visit: obtain baseline information and consent from parent/carer (UK PLS-5 assessment may be carried out at this visit)

2nd visit: 6-months after randomisation, child will have their next PLS-5 assessment.

3rd visit: 12-months after randomisation, child will have their final PLS-5 assessment.

Upon completing the 12-month assessment, usual NHS care will resume.

How does the ITTT programme work?

The ITTT programme is delivered by an independent Hanen certified SLT via videoconference on MS Teams. Parents will be put into groups of 2-8 and the course consists of 13 sessions over 3-4 months
