Mrs Josephine McCallion (née O’Connor) 20.03.1945 – 28.12.2004

Josephine McCallion died on 28th December 2004 after a short illness.

Jose, as she was known, started her employment with the Western Education and Library Board (WELB) in 1981 as a Peripatetic Teacher for the Hearing Impaired in Co. Fermanagh and later transferred to Co.Tyrone. In 1991 she combined this work with her appointment as Senior Teacher for the Pre-School Special Needs Service. She remained in service with the WELB until 2001 when she retired for health reasons.

Jose is remembered for the dedication and enthusiasm which she brought to her work with the deaf and the personal support and guidance she provided to both the children and their parents over the years. She was never more than a phone call away to those needing help or a friendly voice. When Jose was appointed to Senior Teacher for the Pre-School Special Needs Services she was innovative and hard working in developing this service and again brought the personal touch of support and a listening ear to those she worked with. Jose’s lively personality and sense of humour got us all through many a challenging day! She will be sadly missed.

Jose is survived by her husband Eamon and her eight children. May she rest in peace!
