We are seeking a dedicated and experienced professional to join the Luton Special Educational Needs Service as the Teacher of the Deaf to work in the outreach Luton Deaf Children and Young People Service. This is a new position reporting to the Lead for Deaf Children and Young People Service. This is a pivotal role where you will make a significant impact on the lives deaf children and young people in Luton.

Key Responsibilities:
• Service development: contribute to development of the outreach service that meets the needs of deaf children and young people in Luton and ensuring that they achieve their full potential, positive outcomes and thrive.
• Service delivery:
– support the learning and development of deaf children and young people attending early years, mainstream and special educational settings in Luton and develop practice that is inclusive of deafness
– carry out specialist assessments, programmes of support and progress evaluations for deaf children across all age groups
– support understanding of deafness through delivery of training to a range of professionals and families
– assist the local authority in fulfilling its statutory duties towards CYP with deafness
– work in partnership with and offering guidance to schools and families
• Stakeholder Engagement:
– Work closely with educational settings, parents/carers of deaf CYP, audiology departments other health stakeholders to ensure the service meets specified requirements and continuously improves based on feedback.
– Prepare and carry out the service surveys and analyse feedback received

About you
The successful appointment will have experience of working as a Qualified Teacher of the Deaf, in a peripatetic service or specialist provisions (resourced base or special schools) for deaf children and young people.

The postholder will have experience in delivering planned, comprehensive and co-ordinated support and direct teaching of deaf children and young people and has working knowledge of different hearing devices and assistive listening technologies as well as specialist assessments.

You will be required to organise and deliver specialist training sessions for a range of professionals and parents/carers.

You’ll have the ability to review and evaluate detailed assessments, monitoring and programme planning for deaf children and young people, confidently use ICT as a tool and have knowledge and understanding of current legislation, especially within the fields of deafness and special needs.
