The Mandatory Qualification course for teachers of deaf children and young people (QToD) at University of Birmingham is seeking to appoint qualified teachers of deaf children as sessional teaching placement supervisors. Numbers of supervisions allocated are variable each academic year. Placements generally take place between January and June and each student on a 15 day placement receives two visits to observe their teaching. Supervisors write lesson observations following each visit and assess the student’s teaching and accompanying evidence against criteria linked to grades and the MQ outcomes. Payment per supervision (2 x visits; 2 x observations and associated assessment) is currently: £414.46 plus travel expenses. The role offers an excellent opportunity for continuing professional development and provides the opportunity to play a role in the training of future QToDs in your region.
We are seeking to appoint QToDs who are willing to supervise our students undertaking placement in the following areas:
• London Central, SE and SW and the South East (e.g. Kent, Sussex);
• London Central, NE and NW

• East Anglia (Cambridgeshire and Norfolk)
• Birmingham and the West Midlands
• North and North East (e.g. Lancashire, Yorkshire, Tyneside)
• South West (Devon, Cornwall)
• South Wales (Please note a Welsh speaking QToD is required for South Wales.)
You should have substantial experience of teaching deaf children and young people across a range of communication modes, age ranges and provisions. Additionally, you should have experience in mentoring or managing QToD appraisal. Level 2 BSL or higher is desirable. You should be competent in IT skills.
If you are working full time, you should have agreement for release from your place of work to undertake supervision as visits take place during core school hours: visits are generally around 1 hour-1.5 hours in length plus travel. Please note that the University does not pay cover costs for this release.
If you would like an informal discussion or have questions about the role, Angie Wootten, Module Lead on the QToD course is holding an informal discussion meeting on Monday 23rd February at 5pm: please email her directly for a meeting link (see below). It is anticipated that this meeting will be between 30–45 minutes in length.

Your letter should clearly state which geographical area you would be able to cover. Online interviews will be arranged the week beginning Monday 9th March. Appointment will be subject to DBS (enhanced) check, references and attendance at an online training session to be run by the University on Monday 16th March (time TBC).
