Recruitment request – investigating the mental health and well-being of Deaf and Hard of Hearing (D/HH) young people in the Republic of Ireland

Recruitment request to educators involved in facilitating a Deaf young person’s learning, including teachers, SNAs, principals, and support staff

“My name is Conall Monaghan, and I am a doctoral researcher currently investigating the mental health and well-being of Deaf and Hard of Hearing (D/HH) young people in the Republic of Ireland.

I am looking to speak with 5 more educators based in the Republic of Ireland to help complete this study. We are looking for anyone involved in facilitating a Deaf young person’s learning, including teachers, SNAs, principals, and support staff.
I aim to better understand the unique experiences that shape the challenges D/HH face with to their well-being and what can be developed to support them. I am also interested in the “additional roles” educators often perform to support the well-being of Deaf students compared to those working in primarily hearing settings.
Participation involves:
  • A 45-minute online conversation via Teams.
  • Discussion on key themes including D/HH identity, the impact of assistive technology, self-advocacy, and the medical vs. social models of d/Deafness.
If you are Deaf and would prefer to participate using ISL, funding is available to provide an interpreter.
Your perspective would be incredibly valuable. If you are willing to participate, please email me at [email protected].
