“SignHealth launches recruitment for second Young People Advisory Board cohort

Applications are now open for deaf young people aged 13-16 from across the UK to join SignHealth’s Young People Advisory Board (YAB) and influence services, policies and campaigns affecting deaf communities.

SignHealth’s YAB is a group of deaf young people aged 13-17 years old, who are passionate about creating positive changes for deaf young people. The first cohort played a key role in shaping SignHealth’s new Deaf Wave website, contributed to the design of workshops for children and young people, and provided feedback to organisations including NSPCC and Childline on improving accessibility and support for deaf young people. We are so proud of our first YAB cohort, and we are excited for the new cohort to make even bigger waves! For our second YAB cohort, we will be increasing our focus on social action (activities such as campaigning, volunteering and fundraising) as well as policy and influence.

The YAB will meet for five face-to-face weekends across their 18-month term, and there will be online meetings approximately once every month. The focus of this programme will be on campaigning and external influence, enabling young people to make a positive difference in their communities while developing their own skills and knowledge. The YAB is funded by the #iwill Fund with investment from The National Lottery Community Fund, thanks to National Lottery players.

“The YAB helped me make so many new friends, as well as allowing me to grow more confident and gave me other skills that help me a lot. I liked being able to meet other deaf people who had similar experiences to me.” – YAB member

“Our first Young People Advisory Board achieved so much, and we are so proud of them. They shared their ideas, challenged us to think differently, and helped make our work more relevant to deaf young people. We are looking forward to welcoming a new group of young people and supporting them to make a difference in their communities.” – Lucy Jordan-Caws, Children and Young People Participation Officer

We are looking for deaf young people aged 13-16 years old. They can live anywhere in the UK. We are looking for deaf young people who are passionate about creating positive change within deaf communities. Applications open on Friday 14 August and close on Sunday 20 September 2026. Deaf young people aged 13-16 living anywhere in the UK are encouraged to apply. If you know anyone who would be interested, please share this opportunity with them!
