The University of Manchester are conducting new research which we think you may have an interest in taking part in. The purpose of the research is to produce a new resource for teachers and parents of deaf young people which will focus on developing deaf children’s pragmatic and social communication skills.
The project is being conducted by the University of Manchester and it is funded by the National Deaf Children’s Society. This project has been reviewed by The University of Manchester Proportionate Research Ethics Committee. Approval number: 2020-8885-15734
If you are interested in taking part in the study there are two different ways to take part. If you would like to, you can be involved in both or either as follows:
- Completion of a survey. The Participant Information Sheet for the survey is here. You can complete the survey after reading the information sheet.

- Take part in an online focus group. To confirm your interest in taking part in a focus group please contact Dr Helen Chilton by email at [email protected]. Helen will provide you with the Participant Information Sheet, consent form, proposed dates and timescales.
We would also like to invite parents of deaf children to take part. You may be able to help us do this by sending parents (who you think may be interested in taking part in either the survey or focus groups or both) the attached Letter to parents and Participation Information Sheet.
