6 years in total: elected for 2 years as President Elect, 2 years as President and 2 years as Past President.
Entitled to remain on National Executive Council (NEC) for a further two years ex-officio (optional)
Notice period – to allow the Association time to appoint a replacement, six months notice is required |
Time Commitment
|
Attendance at meetings in person or virtual:
- Steering group x 4 per year
- others by agreement with Steering Group with regard to Association Business
Time commitment as necessary, in addition to meetings detailed above
- The President will be expected to attend some meetings, conferences, functions etc in the Presidential role in normal work time.
- Attendance at the FEAPDA Congress in role as President.
Time commitment requires weekly commitments in particular around term time (approx. 3 hours a week)

Main purposes of role
|
The Honorary President shall be responsible for
- ensuring the overall smooth and efficient running of the Association under the guidance of Steering Group
- overseeing the creation, communication and implementation of the Development Plan
- ensuring the implementation of the Aims of the Association
- maintaining and promoting the principles of the Association Constitution
|
Key tasks
|
- Chair NEC, Steering Group meetings and other meetings as appropriate
- Liaise with National Executive Officer through weekly contact
- Liaise with other members of Steering Group as required
- Act as official representative of BATOD at meetings with other agencies and attend relevant functions
- Where possible, the President will attend a meeting in each Region/Nation, as agreed with the President Elect
- Lead the development of the Association and promote the priorities of its work
- Plan outline agendas and Association meetings with National Executive Officer
- Be an ex-officio member of any working group.
- Contribute the introductory article (800 words) to all the Association Magazine editions
- To support the NEO with the day to running of the association in an advisory capacity in conjunction with other SG members
- Regular and timely response to association related emails

Please note that as this is an elected post the holder is a fully participant member of the Steering Group and National Executive Council. |

- The Association runs smoothly and efficiently in a responsible and timely manner.
- The Association develops, implements and communicates its strategic aims
through the Development Plan
- Strategic priorities are identified, implemented and reviewed on an annual basis, to the national context.
- The aims of the Association are upheld and actively promoted

NB: any member of SG can be agreed to be the line manager based on relevant experience. |
Reporting to…

Steering Group.
- All work is done in collaboration with other Steering Group and NEC members.
- Major items are discussed and confirmed with other Steering Group members and ratified by the National Executive Council.
- The President may, however, respond independently on behalf of the Association but must always express the views of the Association which may not be those held personally.

Financial
|
- Normal BATOD expenses payable for SG/NEC attendance and agreed associated expenses.
- Reimbursement available for supply cover arrangements by agreement with Steering Group

Recommended Knowledge and Experience |
- QToD with significant practical experience in deaf education
- Understanding of current issues and challenges in deaf education and for professionals linked to deaf education
- Secure understanding of the way BATOD works and the roles and responsibilities within BATOD
- Leadership experience or equivalent with relevant experience of Line Management where appropriate (only if Line Managing the NEO)
