We wish Bob Nolan, Chairman of Deafblind UK, the best of luck with ‘The Great East Swim’ event during Deafblind Awareness Week in June.
See below Deafblind’s offical press release:
Bob, who is deafblind said: “I want to raise awareness and let people understand that whilst dual sensory loss can be isolating for so many, it doesn’t have to stop you doing what you want to do. With the right support, people with deafblindness can lead full and active lives and still fulfil their dreams. I hope that by completing this swim, I can inspire others to come forward and achieve their own ambitions whatever they may be.”
Bob was born deaf with a progressive sight loss that started to impact on his life during his childhood. He now has less than 3% of his vision left, but he doesn’t let that stop him. Last year he completed the Three Peaks challenge and also cycled the 500 miles between the peaks in five days on a tandem bike.
National charity, Deafblind UK provides a lifeline to people living with combined sight and hearing loss, helping them to live the lives they want. The charity is looking for more people to join Bob in The Great East Swim at Alton Water, Suffolk on 22nd June and raise valuable money for the charity.
Fundraising Officer, Leanne Hodgson said: “We need to raise £35,000 every week to continue supporting deafblind people across the UK, so taking on a challenge and getting sponsored is a great way to help us and have some fun at the same time!”
If you could swim a mile in the open water and raise £300 for the charity, get in touch today. Email the fundraising team at: [email protected] call: 01733 316582 or visit: www.deafblind.org.uk for more information.
