UNESCO Week of Sound is taking place in Edinburgh, 16-20 October 2023.
As part of the free Talks and Discussion schedule,  ‘The future of Deafness and Deaf culture’ will take place on 18 October 2023, 1-3pm at Room G1, Paterson’s Land, University of Edinburgh.
The Future of Deafness and Deaf Culture is a presentation and panel discussion event which aims to discuss a range of topics around deafness, hearing loss and deaf culture. Moderated by Janis McDonald—who provides the secretariat of the Scottish Parliament’s Cross-Party Group on Deafness—three panellists have been invited to give a presentation of up to 15 minutes on a topic of their choice which responds to the theme ‘The Future of Deafness and Deaf Culture’. Philip Gerrard of Deaf Action, Amy White of The ALLIANCE and Issy McGrath of Deafblind Scotland will talk about their own experiences and expectations of what the future holds for deafness and deaf culture.
