For Teachers of the Deaf currently working with pupils using sign language.

(20 places) – Maximum two per setting.

9.45 – 10.15 Reading as a foundation for writing
10.15 – 10.30 Coffee
10.30 – 11 Shape coding and visual phonics as part of the teacher’s toolkit
11 – 11.45 Observe a lesson
11.45 – 12.15 Discussion of observations
12.15 – 1.00 lunch
1.00 – 1. 50 Using high quality books to maximise writing opportunities for deaf writers
1.50 – 2.10 Coffee
2.10 – 3.10 Possible Workshops – to be finalised.
Identifying next steps in writing development (bring samples of your pupils’ writing)
Using shape coding in practice
Games and strategies for developing writing skill – sharing good practice/ideas
Assessing writing – use of analytic assessment of deaf children’s writing (AADCW) and Heathlands Deaf Literacy Tracker
