The role:

The role of Advisory Teacher of the Deaf will be to provide outstanding teaching & advisory support to promote and support the inclusion of deaf pupils within their local mainstream schools.

The Advisory Teacher of the Deaf will support families to understand the implications of their child’s deafness, how best to promote language development and support their child’s personal amplification equipment or to develop their deaf identify and/or culture

You will ensure that parents/carers are aware of other agencies and how these can be accessed

The Advisory Teacher of the Deaf will ensure that parents/carers play a key role in decisions made about their child’s education and progress and produce family-friendly readable reports, ensuring family/pupil voidce is included.

Your demonstrable knowledge as an Advisory Teacher of the Deaf will include:
*Mandatory Teacher of the Deaf qualification (MQ) & completion of ECT induction training
*BSL Level 1 sign qualification and progress onto BSL L2 within 2 years of joining the service
*Ability to work closely with other agencies such as the Specialist Speech and Language Therapy service, Audiology Dept at Alder Hey Hospital, Manchester CI Centre and other charitable agencies
*Having high aspirations & outcomes for all deaf pupils and will promote the successful inclusion and learning opportunities for deaf children
*Having excellent understanding of deafness and its impact on a child’s learning
