About the role
Senior Practitioner – Sensory and Physical
Salary: Soulbury – Soulbury EIP Scale points 14 – 17 plus 3 SPA points £62,197-£66,432 per annum.
This is an exciting opportunity to be part of the leadership team within the Access, Inclusion and Participation pillar in the London Borough of Hounslow.
This role is permanent/36 hours per week.
As a Senior Practitioner for the Sensory and Physical Team, you will work in the Specialist Practice and Advice service function, which sits within the wider Access, Inclusion and Participation pillar. We’re seeking an experienced and motivated individual who has experience and an in-depth knowledge of provision for children and young people with sensory and/or physical needs. Reporting to the Service Manager for Specialist Practice and Advice, you will:
• Provide leadership and operational management of the Sensory and Physical Specialist Support Service (including Teachers of Deaf Children and QTVI), including supervision of specialist teachers and practitioners, allocation of new referrals, and resolution of parental and stakeholder queries.
• Oversee specialist provision and resources, managing requests for equipment with the Service Manager for Learning Support and Assessment: coordinating classroom support, advice and training for schools, and representing the team at relevant panels and meetings.
• Ensure effective governance and collaboration, including data collation, statutory and Freedom of Information responses, and partnership working with other services and agencies to meet the needs of children with sensory and physical needs.
As the council’s expert advisor on sensory and physical needs and provision to support these, you’ll work closely with schools, Children’s Social Care, SEND services, and partners such as the NHS to drive inclusion and positive outcomes for all learners.

About You
As a Senior Practitioner, reporting to the Service Manager for Specialist Practice and Advice, you will:
Have Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), with an additional specialist qualification (e.g. in Specific Learning Difficulties (e.g., Dyslexia, Dyspraxia)) or be a qualified Speech and Language Therapist or Occupational Therapist, Teacher of the Deaf of QTVI.
Have significant experience working with children with special educational needs in educational settings and experience of managing or leading teams.
Experience delivering training and supporting schools in inclusive practice with a strong understanding of ordinarily available provision and graduated response models in education.
