Research Study: Early Cognitive Development in Deaf Infants (Keele University)
“Researchers at Keele University are currently recruiting families with babies who have hearing loss to take part in a study exploring early cognitive development in deaf infants.
The study looks at how babies with hearing loss process visual information, using a safe and non-invasive method called EEG (electroencephalography), which measures brain responses through small sensors placed on the scalp. The research focuses on infants before they receive cochlear implants (where applicable).
The aim of the study is to better understand early brain development in deaf infants, including their strengths and adaptations in processing visual information. The findings may help inform parents, clinicians, and teachers of the deaf about early cognitive development.
The research team is able to visit families at home to carry out the study.
The project is running until the end of 2026. If you are a parent of a baby with hearing loss and would like to find out more, please contact: Ellie-Mae, Keele Interdisciplinary Developmental Science (KiDS) Lab, Keele University via [email protected]
