“Hester Richardson would like you to take part in a survey which aims to discover more about the identification of children with Multi-Sensory Impairments in the UK as part of her PhD research into successful strategies for identifying children with MSI (deafblind)
Identification of Children with Multi-Sensory Impairments (Deafblindness) – Fill in form
Key information – Your questions answered.
WHY AM I BEING ASKED TO TAKE PART IN A SURVEY?
Currently, very little is known about the numbers, identification, support and assessment of children with multi-sensory impairments in the UK. As a member of a sensory support team for education, you may have key information which can lead to a much clearer picture of this group of learners and their needs.
WHAT IS THIS SURVEY ABOUT?
The survey seeks information which will contribute to my PhD research project about factors which support successful identification of children with MSI. It asks about criteria used, numbers of children identified, and who is involved in the process of identifying children as having MSI (Multi-Sensory Impairment).
WHO IS ASKING ME TO TAKE PART?
Hester Richardson: I am a PhD student at the University of Birmingham. I am a qualified QTMSI and QTVI who worked as a specialist teacher for 32 years before transitioning to deliver the MA/MQ in Multi-Sensory Impairment at the University of Birmingham. This survey forms a part of my research.
WHAT WILL I NEED TO DO?
The main part of the survey is presented through multiple choice or short, free-text questions. It is designed not to take up more than 20 – 30 minutes of your time.
WILL I GIVE CONSENT TO TAKE PART? AND CAN I WITHDRAW?
By completing the survey and returning it, you will be consenting to take part in my research. However, if you change your mind about this, you are welcome to withdraw from the project. You can do this by contacting me directly via my email: [email protected]. You are free to withdraw at any point before publication of the results.
WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?
The information gained from the survey will be shared with participants, prior to a wider publication of results. Your insights and feedback would be very welcome at that point.
Also, the information gathered from the survey will form part of the next stage of my research. At the end of the survey, you will be invited to volunteer for this more detailed part of the project, and I sincerely hope that the topic interests you enough to consider going further.”
