Is the Signature K318 unit an accredited language modification course for examinations?
Query to BATOD – The CSW who works with and will be supporting the student in exams is a qualified CSW with a K318 unit – she has asked Signature if this is ok to be a language modifier – they have said yes but college have queried this as it isn’t the Communicate-ed qualification. Is this ok?
BATOD working group response
Unit K318 – Accessible English for Deaf and Deafblind People is not an accredited language modification course. The only stand-alone accreditation on offer is run by Communicate-Ed Language Modifier (LM) course. It is robust and rigorous. It is accredited by CIEA. JCQ regulations state that anyone acting as an LM in an exam must have successfully completed accredited training. This applies whether or not the awarding body has used a BATOD accredited LM (BALM).
