Supporting requests for deaf CYP in community language schools?

Experience shared by a ToD for an English awarding body

The documentation needed for the assessment adjustments were:

  • A letter from the QToD or doctor outlining their deafness.

  • Individual Education Plan (IEP) – with permission from the family.

  • JCQ Form 9.  (Sections: P2, P4, P11)

  • Other documentation options are accepted and listed on the Form 9 submission.
Points of note:
  • discuss the arrangements with the deaf CYP, and family
  • emphasise with school the needs for usual teacher to read the transcript of the listening exam
  • approval discussion with awarding body essential ahead of mock exams and exams to enable time for the CYP to practice
  • present of an invigilator in a separate room has not specific section – consider noting in P2 and P11.
